community’s highly motivated and qualified professional and lay leadership have strong business and communal experience, and they have succeeded in reducing communal expenses while increasing local fundraising.
Today, the local Jewish community, with support from JDC is helping to:
Provide support to the community’s poorest by supplying food and other relief services and ensuring housing (by paying rent and utility arrears) for elderly Jews who are struggling to make ends meet on their plummeting pensions. JDC has been leading the global Jewish effort to secure crisis-
related social services for the community’s children in need, young families, and others who have been thrust into poverty by job loss or severely reduced incomes.
Develop tomorrow’s Jewish leaders by offering scholarships to children whose families are no longer able to afford Jewish day school tuition due to their financial hardship, and subsidizing the participation of young Greek Jews in regional leadership retreats and Jewish camp programs, thereby ensuring a future cadre of spirited and informed young leaders for the community.
