Western Technical College Landscape Horticulture students used space in the former Hillview Greenhouse on North 24th Street to put classroom learning into practice. The plants they grew were sold to the com- munity, and the profits were used for scholarships, to benefit local charities, and to fund class trips.
SUSTAINABILITY
THROUGH LEARNING
AND COLLABORATIONS
WESTERN TECHNICAL COLLEGE offers its students an active learn- ing experience in an atmosphere that contributes to the vibrancy of its communities. Throughout its history, Western has shown a concern for the sustainability of the region, focusing
on its economic indicators, health and
physical environment. The new Horticul- ture Education Center will embody this commitment to learning and sustainabil- ity. The two-story glass-enclosed building will be home base for Western’s Land- scape Horticulture program and a place where the Hillview Urban Agriculture Center can visibly serve the community.
