The Horticulture Educa- tion Center on Western’s downtown La Crosse campus will feature three greenhouse spaces. Two will be used by Western’s students and the third will be used by Hillview. Shared lab and classroom spaces will be located in the front of the building along Vine Street.

• Western began offering Landscape Horti- culture as an associate’s degree in 2007. The College- also offers associate’s degree programs in Agribusiness Science Technol- ogy and Culinary Management.
• The Landscape Horticulture program at Western Technical College offers a career pathway that includes the option of achieving a four-course certificate, a one-year technical diploma or a two-year associate’s degree.

AS SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR for Western Technical College, Shannon Havlik focuses on building strategic and collaborative alliances with local schools, businesses, community non-profits, neighborhood civic groups, and local governments. She works as a liaison to integrate the skills, experience, and creativity of Western’s students and faculty into sustainability projects and provides leadership for both internal and exter- nal projects and committees. Shannon has been with Western Technical College for eight years and has worked with sustainability for the college for four years. Western’s mission—to provide relevant, high-quality educa- tion, in a collaborative and sustainable environment that changes the lives of our students and grows our communities—is a driving force behind Western’s strong commitment to sustainability.
