ENDORSEMENTS
La Crosse has a robust history in urban agriculture and support of our local food system. This legacy has grown much stronger
in recent years to become an essential part of our neighborhood revitalization efforts. These endeavors include the city’s
many community gardens, farmers markets, local orchards, Farm2S-chool programs, and cooperatives. The future of urban agriculture in La Crosse is indeed bright, with the next notable project being the collaboration between Mayo Clinic Health System—Franciscan Healthcare, Western Technical College,
La Crosse Community Foundation, and Hillview Urban Agriculture Center. Much of our success can be attributed to our partnerships, and the health, social, and economic benefits demonstrated by our local food system through projects like the Hillview Urban Agriculture Center are what La Crosse is all about.

WILL ALLEN, Founder & CEO Growing Power
Everybody, regardless of their economic means, should have access to healthy, safe, affordable food that is grown naturally. Our vision at Growing Power is “Inspiring communities to build sus- tainable food systems that are equitable and ecologically sound, creating a just world, one food- secure community at a time.” I am excited to see the La Crosse community and Hillview Urban Agriculture Center share that vision, particularly through their collaboration on the soon-to-be-built, state-of-the-art greenhouse and future home of Hillview, as well as through Hillview’s vermicompost project (after all, it all starts with the soil!) and the many other projects and programs that will help build a sustainable food system. Keep up the “good food” work, La Crosse and Hillview!
Will Allen is founder and CEO
of Growing Power in Milwaukee. In 2008, Mr. Allen was named
a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellow and was awarded a prestigious foundation “genius grant” for his work—only the second farmer ever to be so honored. He is also a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, and in February 2010 was invited to the White House to join First Lady Michelle Obama in launching Let’s Move!, her signature leadership initia- tive to reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity in America.
In May 2010, Time magazine named Mr. Allen to the Time 100 World’s Most Influential People. Mr. Allen is the author of The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People, and Communities.
