10 WINONA, MINNESOTA GRSF.org GREAT RIVER SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL
FRONT PORCH EVENTS
The “Front Porch” is where we gather to talk with our friends, family and neighbors and to discover Shakespeare at a deeper level.
Together with Frozen River Film Festival, GRSF presented the documentary “Still Dreaming,” following residents of a retire- ment home who created a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The Symposium series continued. Led by renowned regional scholars in partnership with Winona State University the Symposiums looked at “Shakespeare On-Stage vs. On-Screen” and at Tennessee Williams and The Glass Menagerie.
Author and performer Tim Federle discussed growing up, his Broadway career and his books for children and adults.
The Annual Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest brought in 906
entries from 452 poets (including 70 poets in the
youth category) in 45 states, Washington D.C. and 18
foreign countries.
LIBRARY PARTNERSHIP
PROGRAM
Winona and Rushford Public Libraries hosted educational presentations about the plays in Season 12. GRSF also provided ticket vouchers to library users.
WILL READS
The entire community of Shakespeare fans, new and old, prepared for the GRSF season by reading and discussing each of the professional and apprentice/ intern company plays.
A new format this year introduced an opportunity for community members to gather together to read and discuss scenes from the plays with the GRSF Education team.
